The purpose of Lighthouse Baptist Church is to love God, to grow together, and to serve others – love, grow, serve.
Scripture gives us very clearly a reason greater than any other for us to love God: “We love him, because he first loved us.” (I John 4:19) The primary purpose we have as the church is to love and glorify our God. Loving God involves every part of our being. We are to love Him with our all. “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” (Matthew 22:37)
The Scripture teaches us that a second primary purpose for the church is growth in Christ: “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (II Peter 3:18) Through the preaching of God’s Word and Christian fellowship growth in Christ: “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (II Peter 3:18) Through the preaching of God’s Word and Christian fellowship, we are encouraged, exhorted and equipped to learn and grow in our walk with Christ.
Another great purpose of the church is to serve others. We serve others as we find a place of ministry in the local body. We serve to declare Christ to those who have never heard (Matthew 28:18-20). We serve to disciple Christians to grow in their walk with Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12).We serve to display the light of Christ in a dark world (Matthew 5:16).
God is a Person, eternally existing, as a Trinity in unity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – three Persons and yet one God. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, I Corinthians 8:6)
Jesus Christ, eternally existing, is the only begotten Son of God, who became a sinless man to redeem us. He was born of a virgin and is true God and true man. (Luke 1:30-55, John 1:1-15, Philippians 2:5-8)
We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men led by the Holy Spirit; that it has truth without any admixture of error for its matter; and therefore is, and shall remain forever, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man; the true center of Christian doctrine and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21)
Sin and the World
Man was created in the image of God but fell through sin, bringing physical and spiritual death, or eternal separation from God. Now, all of mankind exists as a fallen race with an inherited sinful nature. (Genesis 2:16, Genesis 3:16-19, Romans 3:10-23, Romans 6:23)
The Sacrifice of Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ suffered and died as a substitutionary payment for the sin of the whole world. He physically arose from the dead and then He ascended into Heaven. Simple faith in this sacrifice is the only way of salvation for mankind. Those who die not having put their faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ spend eternity separated from God. (Luke 24, Acts 1:9-11, Romans 5:8-10, I Peter 3:18)
The End Times
Jesus Christ will soon come again in the air to call up His Church to reward their service. The unbelievers left behind will go through a period called the Tribulation, after which Christ will return to the Earth to set up His Kingdom of one thousand years of righteous rule. After this, the unbelievers of all ages will stand at the Great White Throne to be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, separated from God forever, while the believers spend eternity in the fullness of joy in Heaven with the Lord. (Matthew 24:29-42, I Thess. 4:16-18, Revelation 19:11-20:13)
Church Membership and Service
The local church is a group of believers who are baptized by emersion in water, banded together for edification, exhortation, and evangelism as commanded by Christ in the Great Commission; preaching the Gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15, I Corinthians 12:12, Ephesians 1:22-23)
